Given Muronga, a Gauteng Pretoria-born artist, discovered his profound love for art through the unique influences of his upbringing in a township, an environment where such a worldview was unexpected.
Storytelling and creativity quickly became his passion, leading him to pursue art and design with unwavering dedication. His exceptional talent was evident early on, securing him admission to Pro Arte Alphen Park school, where he consistently excelled and ultimately graduated with top honors in arts and design.
Muronga’s work is deeply rooted in his cultural heritage, drawing inspiration from his past and personal experiences. This unique perspective as an African artist fuels the creation of heartfelt and relatable works that contribute to the rich tapestry of storytelling and visual documentation.
Throughout his career, he has been recognized as a finalist in several prestigious awards, including the State of the Art Gallery Award Top 10 and the Umsizi Nopende Top 20. A significant milestone in his early career was a sold-out alumni showcase at the State Theatre. His work has since garnered further recognition, leading to commissions by the National Art Museum in 2022-23 and 2024.
Muronga is mentored by prominent artists such as Senzeni Marasela ,Thabang Lehobye, Layziehound and many others , whose guidance continues to shape his artistic journey.
