Boy Carriying Logs

Given Muronga artist statement

To me, art is a form of journaling—a way to preserve experiences, especially those shaped by history and cultural narratives. I am mostly interested in depicting the human experience within its surroundings often questioning how one’s environment influences decision-making and shapes their role in society. Whether in the township where i was born and raised or in the village where i often frequented exposed me to the socio-economic disparities that affected human lives. Story telling was the center of my upbringing .We sat around a fire with my cousins ,uncles and aunts while we listened to the stories my guardians would recount to us about our history and our heritage. The fire became our comfort ,the boiling drievoet filled with water or food was the center of our warmth , became the heart of our gatherings—a symbol of resilience in a village where electricity was scarce.*

The current work represents the act of going to fetch the wood from the farm to dry and use as fuel to the fire.
