Artwork synopsis:

This photographic artwork, manipulated with AI tools, challenges the genetic modification of flowers for ornamental and capitalistic purposes; which are altered to meet human desires for visual appeal and commercial gain. By exploring the practice of modification from the perspective of natural pollinators like bees, the modified flowers are presented as alien and invasive organisms to the ecological spaces they inhabit.

The altered flowers become unsettling and unnatural in their form - posing discomfort to the life forms that engage with them through ecological cycles.

The striking visual contrasts and surreal imagery of the piece highlights how such alterations that cater to consumer demand are counter to the processes of nature.

Therefore framing the manipulation of flowers for purely aesthetic desires and/or commercial purposes as an invasive practice that undermines the delicate balance of natural ecological systems and spaces.

The artwork suggests that future practices of genetically altering plant life should be more considerate of the preservation of biodiversity, the health of pollinators, and the stability of ecological systems; lest they be invaded by human desire and intervention.
