Artist statement
My work on this exhibition talks about the changes in Africa, the blending of cultures and the dystopian and utopian elements in my country and continent. I incorporate expressive shapes and patterns in my work and find myself drawn to the provocative colours and decorative images of ethnic African art. I see Africa oscillating between two worlds: the beautiful wildlife and landscapes and the modernised, often struggling or dysfunctional systems. Although continuously conflicted with the fact that I am apart and part of Africa at the same time, I find Africa deeply beautiful. My work depicts its unstoppable changing and diverseness.
