Artist’s biography.

Karen Lasserre was born and still lives and works in Pretoria. She is mostly self-taught. She started painting professionally in 1997 with her first solo exhibition at the Karen McKerron Gallery. She had nine solo exhibitions and took part in group exhibitions. She had three two-months stays at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. Her work is represented in private collections in Belgium, England, France, Holland, Germany, South Africa, Japan and the USA.

Artist’s statement.

I absolutely love colour and am ardent about my work. I use multi-layers to cover and expose, using mostly mixed media. Without wearing the viewer, the work leads both myself and onlookers to feel excited, involved and ultimately uplifted. The Composite Workshop of CAP Institute for Contemporary Art hosted by The Viewing Room inspired me to incorporate animals into my most recent paintings.
