The Great Pretender

These digital collage artworks were originally created using photographs I took of various surfaces and walls in and around Hillbrow and Yeoville, where I have lived for most of my life. They were printed and pasted up around the city with the intention that they would be interacted with, torn and graffitied over.

The piece entitled ‘Prophet’s song’, was originally intended to represent the ‘Angel of Death’ during the 2020 pandemic, which occurred just as I was creating this body of work. I find this image particularly poignant in today's current worldwide political condition.

It is uncanny how well all four pieces found their titled only once I really looked at them as possible submissions for the ‘Killer Queen’ exhibition. The song titles gave a whole new life and meaning to each image.

In my work I am attempting to presents a modern satire. A narrative that can hopefully echo our personal and collective psyche. The human condition fascinates me, and I want my work to reflect aspects of the mind, soul and spirit.
