Sekgwama sa Badimo

My artistic practice explores the intersections of memory, materiality, and transformation, engaging with themes of resilience, spirituality, and environmental consciousness. Working primarily with discarded and industrial materials—such as shredded tyre strips, metallic wires, and woven strings—I construct sculptural forms that embody tension, endurance, and renewal. These materials, often overlooked or deemed obsolete, become conduits for storytelling, symbolizing both the fragility and tenacity of existence.

Through an intuitive process of weaving, layering, and assembling, my work evokes organic structures—nest-like forms, skeletal frameworks, and tangled landscapes—that reflect cycles of decay and regeneration. The interplay between rough, industrial elements and delicate, handwoven details speaks to the contrasts between destruction and repair, chaos and harmony, abandonment and reclamation.

At the heart of my practice is a commitment to sustainability and the reimagining of waste as a site of possibility. By transforming discarded materials into intricate sculptural works, I seek to challenge perceptions of value and permanence while fostering a dialogue on adaptation, survival, and the evolving relationship between humans and their environment. Through these explorations, my work becomes a meditation on interconnectedness—between past and present, the material and the ephemeral, the personal and the collective.
