The sculpture portrays a Sangoma, a traditional healer of Southern Africa, steadfast in their dedication to traditional healing practices.
Despite the progress of modern medicine, the Sangoma persists in relying on ancient muthi’s that they make from plants, animals and minerals that have been collected and utilized by African tribes for centuries.
Today, Sangomas continue to fulfil their healing role. The circular composition of the sculpture mirrors the interconnected and cyclical nature of life, symbolising the enduring traditions and beliefs passed down through generations.
