Perks of Being a Wallflower 1

In his opening remarks, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres stressed: “Patriarchy is far from vanquished; it is regaining ground”.  Women and girls are facing a war on their fundamental rights at home and in their communities. South Africa has been cited as one of the most unequal countries on Earth, its inequality is profoundly gendered. On a global level, there has also been little progress on gender equality since the Global Goals were signed in 2015. 18 countries have seen gender inequality worsen, with Venezuela, Afghanistan, Algeria, Belarus, Kuwait, and Ecuador the worst affected. Placated, violated, domesticated, objectified, a property to be viewed and owned, silenced, wallflower women, seen but not heard.
