Op Die Duck

The etching, “Op die Duck” (2025), shows a monumental duckling on the roof of a building. The building has a resemblance to residences in Hatfield. A cityscape can be seen in the background as well as ducks flying away and a small mountain range in the distance. This work is busy, filled with little details to capture the hustle and bustle of the city

The artwork takes inspiration from my family’s recent move down to the Western Cape and how this big change has affected us all. The little duckling is on top of this roof to represent the massive leadership roles and responsibilities that I had to take on this year in Pretoria without my family close by. The mountains far in the distance, depict where my parents stay and how the duckling longs to also be there.
