It drains your energy, and it bleeds you dry
This artwork metaphorically shows how blood represents energy leaving Natty’s body and play with the idea that the blood is the drained energy after an epileptic seizure. Epileptic seizures can have a profound effect on energy levels, often leaving individuals feeling fatigued and drained. Seizures involve intense and abnormal electrical activity in the brain, which requires significant metabolic energy. This heightened brain activity consumes a lot of energy, leading to immediate physical exhaustion, especially in generalised tonic-clonic seizures that involve intense muscle contractions. During convulsive seizures, muscles undergo rapid and vigorous contractions.
The energy required for these muscle contractions can be enormous, similar to performing extreme physical exercise, resulting in immediate fatigue post-seizure. Individuals often experience severe fatigue during this period, which can last from minutes to several hours or even days. The brain and body require time to recuperate from the intense energy expenditure during the seizure.
