I Should Be Fine

Artist’s Statement

In my latest series of paintings, I delve into the fragility and delicacy of mental health, particularly in the context of isolation. Drawing from my personal experiences, I’ve come to understand the complexities of navigating mental well-being and the often overwhelming feelings that accompany it. These works serve as a reflection of my journey, illustrating how the weight of self-loathing and the instinct to sabotage connections can lead to emotional detachment.

The figures depicted in my paintings embody a profound sense of being overwhelmed and paralyzed by their circumstances. Their nonchalant expressions mask the internal struggles that many face but often choose not to reveal. Through their postures and facial expressions, I aim to convey the silent battles that occur within, highlighting the contrast between outward appearances and inner turmoil.

By sharing this intimate exploration, I hope to foster a dialogue about mental health and challenge the stigma surrounding it. Each brushstroke is imbued with a sense of vulnerability and truth, inviting viewers to reflect on their own experiences and the universal human condition of seeking connection amidst feelings of isolation. Ultimately, my aspiration is that these paintings resonate with others, encouraging openness and understanding in a world where it is all too easy to remain aloof.
