Where will the last ecological havens be if we keep destroying them? As Donald Trump repeated his campaign slogan at his inauguration on January 20, where he will “Drill, baby, drill!" and ‘unleash American energy’ potential, despite being the world's largest oil producer (14.7% of the world's crude oil), the US is set to expand its national agenda of increased extraction and pollution in an age of ever increasing climate changing chaos.
While China may be the biggest emitter overall in the world, the average American is responsible for nearly twice as much climate pollution as the average person in China. In his speech where the word “climate" was completely absent, Trump also withdrew the US from the Paris Climate Agreement, the only international climate accord for countries around the world to agree to cut greenhouse gas emissions in an effort to limit global warming and forestall the impacts of climate change. In his first week in office he also approved 2.57 million sq km of offshore federal waters to oil and gas development, ending a ban ordered by Biden on new offshore oil and gas drilling.
Our soul and creativity arises from and is inspired by the language of the natural world, what will happen to humanity’s soul if we keep destroying the natural world for profit, on our one and only habitable planet?
