To generate intrigue, is my main objective. I want to pull the viewer closer. I want them to ask questions.
That is why I paint with oils on large scale canvas:
Moody renditions of people or places, atmospheres with a spiritual under or over-current, the play of light in its many complexities. My joy is to create artworks that people would like to live with.
My foundational inspiration came from my father, master sculptor Tienie Pritchard. As a very privileged little one, I found myself crawling around the clay dust floor of his studio. Here, on a hill close to the Hartebeest Poort dam, his world shaped my artistic identity as a realist.
Art Schools included Pro Arte, and the Pretoria Technikon, but my visual language was and still is being shaped in my studio.
In the early 2000’s I started exhibiting in Pretoria and Johannesburg Fine art Galleries, and later in Cape Town. Living next to the waves in Betties Bay for 14 years had an enormous impact on my work. Here my love for marine oils was awakened, at first with a super realistic eye, maturing to more of a looser, mood-scape feel.
Currently living and working in Pretoria, with my eye on the international horizon, I am continuing to explore scriptural themes and narratives. This forms and inseparable part of my creative inner and outer live.
