Black Star

Blackstar (stylised as ★) is the twenty-sixth and final studio by David Bowie. Released on 8 January 2016, Bowie's 69th birthday, two days before his death.

The sleeve was the only Bowie sleeve not to feature an image of the artist himself.

Lyrically, Bowie positions himself as a kind of mythic figure—“I'm a blackstar, I'm not a gangster”. In this context the “blackstar” itself could symbolize a collapsed star, an object of intense gravity, and possibly a metaphor for the soul after death.

I chose the image of a blackstar for my art work specifically combined with images of plants and flowers to represent the idea that the death of matter is not the death of life, that there is no end to energy.
