My work explores what I call “relationscapes,” which are constructed scenes examining the relationships we inhabit, from the intimate to the societal. I often delve into the complexities of conduct, how we perform, and how invisible systems shape our behavior. My practice blurs the line between the disturbing realities of being us—our desires, secrets, and contradictions—and the idealized visions of what I wish the world could be. Each composition begins as a collage, assembled from photographs, media fragments, and sometimes images of my own body. These constructed scenes become the foundation for my paintings, where I re-stage and transform the collage into a more fluid, performative reality. I work primarily in oil paint, a medium I value for its depth and richness, yet I deliberately soften its traditional gloss. This approach subverts the medium’s association with luxury and permanence, creating surfaces that feel more playful, transient, and imperfect, qualities that echo the shifting narratives within my work. The hybridity of my process, combining photography, collage, and paint, reflects the layered, constructed nature of identity itself. Collage mirrors fragmentation and reconstruction, while painting allows me to manipulate illusion and reality, pushing each image between truth and artifice. My fascination with popular culture, fashion, and idealized images—fashion spreads, films, and social media—feeds this process of visual collection. Like a magpie, I gather fragments and reconstruct them into collages where artifice meets authenticity. Through painted and disrupted images, I invite viewers to reflect on how our narratives, both real and imagined, shape the ways we see, feel, and relate to one another.
