CROSSROADS: TSELA TSE PEDI

In my Chiari malformation photoshoot, the incorporation of zips adds layers of symbolism to the overarching theme of Crossroads. This theme signifies the critical junctures in life where decisions must be made, often leading to diverging paths. By choosing zips as a central element, I metaphorically represent the act of hiding a secret. This aligns with the unseen aspect of Chiari malformation, where the condition may not be immediately apparent to others, highlighting the complexity of navigating the intersection between what is visible and what remains concealed.
In Setswana culture, the concept of “Tsela tse Pedi” or two roads encapsulates the idea of facing choices with significant consequences. The use of zips in my photoshoot further amplifies this notion, as they visually embody the dichotomy between revealing or concealing the truth about my condition. Each zip represents a potential path, emphasizing the weight of the decision and the uncertainty that comes with choosing between seen and unseen aspects of oneself.
The visual metaphor of the zips not only conveys the hidden struggles associated with Chiari malformation but also reflects the universal experience of confronting choices at pivotal moments in life. By exploring this intersection between visibility and concealment, my photoshoot invites viewers to contemplate the complexities of navigating personal crossroads and the significance of the choices we make along the way.

Biography
Born and raised in the vibrant township of Soweto, Gauteng, Naledi is a talented artist whose creative journey has been shaped by a unique blend of influences. As the youngest daughter and grandchild in her family, she brings a fresh perspective to her work that is deeply rooted in her experiences and upbringing.
Despite a background in accounting and science, Naledi found her true calling in the world of art. Her journey began at the UJ Metropolitan Academy, a specialized school where she was immersed in the rigors of Mathematics, Physical Science, Accounting, and Economics. This diverse educational background brings a distinctive analytical and structured approach to her artistic endeavours.
Naledi's artistic style is characterized by its clean and simple aesthetic, with a profound appreciation for the interplay of shapes and colours. Her work reflects a meticulous attention to detail and a thoughtful exploration of form and composition.
In 2022, Naledi graduated as the top-performing student in her class, a testament to her dedication and talent. She specializes in printmaking but infuses her creations with elements of textile design to add a unique layer of self-expression to her work.
Throughout her journey at the Tshwane University of Technology, Naledi has been actively involved in the art community, participating in numerous exhibitions, and even contributing her expertise to curatorial efforts. Her art has not only garnered attention but has also had a significant impact on those who have had the privilege of experiencing it.
