We are thrilled to invite you to experience our current
exhibition on the 1st floor, "Bound to Boundless," featuring
the remarkable works of artist Carmen Clew.
Carmen Clew's artworks delve into the ancient Japanese art of
Shibari, exploring the intricate beauty and tight binding of this practice.
Shibari is more than a display of sensuality; it is a practice rooted in
mindfulness and presence, transforming into a form of meditation. This
state of being—mindful, present, and self-aware—should resonate throughout
all aspects of our lives. Each action we take has a profound effect on
ourselves and those around us.
Carmen’s works also evoke a sense of playfulness and trust.
She emphasize the importance of surrender in relationships, highlighting
that true love and connection stem from mutual respect and trust. This
trust is not limited to romantic partners but extends to friendships and
all meaningful relationships. By entrusting someone fully, we forge
stronger bonds.
While Clew's sculptures explore themes of sensuality, they
also touch upon meditation, mindfulness, and surrender within the broader
context of living a present and mindful life. The highly polished surfaces
of these sculptures reflect viewers, inviting them to become part of the
artwork's landscape. This reflection changes with every movement,
symbolizing the sculpture’s surrender to its physical space—an embodiment
of post-modern art.
The exhibition also features editioned photographic images of
the sculptures, depicting the artist's figure bound, offering glimpses into
the beauty of intimate moments. Some images reflect places and spaces
significant to the artist, adding layers of intimacy and mindfulness.
Additionally, Clew’s paintings bring a sense of playfulness, with loose
brushstrokes that convey freedom and spontaneity.
We invite you to immerse yourself in this thought-provoking
exhibition. Join us in exploring the profound connections between
mindfulness, trust, and the art of being present.
