Celebrating the international year of glass.
Next Generation - Celebrating Southern African Glass Art will bring you glass in a myriad of creative interpretations at The Viewing Room Art Gallery from 10 September until 22 October 2022. Several staff, students and alumni from the Faculty of Arts and Design will partake in the exhibition which coincides with the United Nations International Year of Glass, focusing on the essential role glass has within art. The exhibition will weave upcoming and professional glass artists in one exhibition show casing the best of glass in all forms such as blown glass, flame work, coldshop work, kiln forming and casting. A big thank you goes out to Tshwane University of Technology Fine and Studio Arts Department where glass is one of the many disciplines one can study as part of their diploma.
The curators of this show is Caitlin Greenberg and Martli Jansen van Rensburg and there main focus will be an exhibition of upcoming and contemporary glass works by current glass artists and the next generation of trailblazers who have transformed and continue to shape the Southern African creative glass industry. They include Caitlin Greenberg, lecturer and subject coordinator of the glass studio at TUT, Martli Jansen van Rensburg and Malebogo Molokwane, both part time lectures.
Other artists selected include 1st years, 2nd and 3rd year students as well as Advanced Diploma Student Inge Lokwe and Post graduate student Sindisiwe Molefe. Former glass lecturer Retief van Wyk and alumni students Ryan Manuel, Olebogeng Djamba, Lothar Böttcher, Thabiso Mokaba, Thato Kokwana, and Jason Brits.
