I am Wisani
Manyisi, a contemporary artist born on July 25th, 1985 in Limpopo, South
Africa. Currently residing in Johannesburg, my artistic journey is deeply
rooted in my fascination with children’s psychology, which I juxtapose with my
own childhood memories. My artistic endeavors began in my youth, when the only available
medium was clay, wires and other found objects. This early exploration of
diverse mediums laid the foundation for my artistic development. In 2010, I
attained my Foundation in Art Practice from the Funda Centre. I then proceeded
to the Tshwane University of Technology in 2013, where I completed a Diploma
and a B-Tech in Fine Arts. Further expanding my education, I obtained a
Postgraduate Certificate in Education, specializing in Creative and Visual
Arts, from the University of Johannesburg in 2019.
My diverse
artistic practice encompasses printmaking, drawing, and sculpture. This
multifaceted approach reflects my commitment to artistic expression. My work
has been recognized through several achievements, including being selected as a
student mentor in 2015-2016 and participating in the Association of Art in
Pretoria's student exhibition that year. I was also a finalist in the 2019
Thami Mnyele Art Competition and the 2023 Sasol New Signature Competition. As
both an educator and a practicing artist, I seamlessly blend my passion for
teaching and my dedication to creating work that resonates with audiences
through my unique perspective rooted in childhood psychology and personal
experiences.
