Born 1969
Nicola Holgate is a contemporary painter and sculptor, currently practicing from her home studio in Hartbeespoort in North West Province. She relocated to South Africa in 2016 after living in Botswana for 16 years, and had a residency at Greatmore Studios in Cape Town in 2018 and at August House in the Johannesburg CBD in 2019 and 2020.
Holgate regards her work as a storytelling device and allows the story to dictate the medium and process. She is currently developing a sculpting technique using paper and found objects, working within the theme of motherhood and the experiences of birth, life and death.
