Naledi Sekgopi

Naledi Sekgopi is a contemporary ceramic artist born in Pretoria, in 1996. She is currently doing her artist residency at Botaki ba Afrika.Her work speaks about mental health and how it shows in our loved ones or even how it affects societal issues.

Welack grace for each other not knowing what challenges one might face personally. Her journey with mental health started with her father who was a police officer during apartheid and struggled with PTSD later in his life. She includes these themes in her work by mixing clay with other objects such as glass and metal nails and carving the clay to illustrate the ideas better.

Her first exhibition was at the Pretoria Arts Association which resulted in her work being exhibited at the Sandton Hotel. She was selected as the top 100 finalist for the Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards in 2022. She was later selected to exhibit at the Ceramic Southern Africa Gauteng Regional Exhibition in the same year. She exhibited at the Pretoria Art Museum for the Sasol New Signature top 100.
