Cecilia Wilmot Ballam

My Parents left South Africa for England in the 1970’s for political reasons. I was subsequently born near Glastonbury- England, 0n the 2 nd Dec 1976. We returned as a family in the late 1980’s in support of the imminent positive change in the Country.

Back in South Africa, I grew up in the Hills of Shongweni- KZN, in a home where both my Parents are Artists. Encouraged with this as a background, I have created Sculpture and Art my whole life. It really is in my Bones.

Upon moving to Johannesburg in 2004, I taught Art & Sculpture at Parktown College. Since 2006, I co-formed/own and run a Sculpture and Art studio- Space Alchemy- in JHB, with Business partner Carl Maritz. Our employed junior Sculptors have been Bongani Nyoni, Joseph Josphat Mupawose, Richard Makhuva (now passed) and on a project basis Hloai Mahlope.
